How to Give Access to Google Search Console

If you’ve hired an SEO agency or consultant to help improve your website’s rankings, one of the first things they’ll need is access to your Google Search Console account. Google Search Console is a free tool that shows how your website is performing in Google search — including which keywords you rank for, how many clicks you’re getting, and whether Google has identified any technical issues with your site.

Rather than sharing your personal Google login, Google Search Console has a built-in user management system that lets you invite specific people with defined permission levels. In the video below, we walk you through the exact steps.

Why Google Search Console Access Matters for SEO

Google Search Console gives your SEO team direct insight into how Google sees your website. Without access, an agency is essentially working blind. With it, they can:

  • See exactly which search queries are driving traffic to your site
  • Identify pages that are ranking but underperforming and need improvement
  • Spot and resolve crawl errors, indexing issues, and manual penalties
  • Submit new sitemaps and request indexing for new or updated pages
  • Monitor Core Web Vitals and page experience signals

It’s one of the most valuable data sources in SEO, and granting access takes less than two minutes.

Understanding Google Search Console Permission Levels

Google Search Console offers two access levels:

  • Full – Can view all data and take actions such as submitting sitemaps, requesting indexing, and managing settings. This is the level most SEO agencies will need to do their work effectively.
  • Restricted – Can view most reports and data but cannot take any actions or make changes. Useful if you want a stakeholder or business partner to monitor performance without the ability to modify anything.

For a working SEO partner, Full access is the appropriate level.

How to Give Access to Google Search Console

Follow these steps to invite someone to your Google Search Console property:

  1. Go to Google Search Console at search.google.com/search-console and make sure you’re logged in with the Google account that owns your property.
  2. Select your website property from the left-hand dropdown if you have more than one.google search console
  3. Click “Settings” near the bottom of the left-hand navigation menu.google search console settings
  4. Click “Users and permissions.”google search console users
  5. Click “Add User” in the upper right corner.google search console add user
  6. Enter the email address of the person you want to invite. This must be a Google account email.google search console add user email
  7. Select their permission level — Full or Restricted.
  8. Click “Add.”

The person will receive an email notification and will have immediate access to your Search Console property at the permission level you selected. Unlike Google Business Profile, there is no invitation to accept — access is granted right away.

How to Remove Access Later

If you ever need to revoke access — for example, if you switch SEO agencies — go back to Users and Permissions, find the user, click the three-dot menu next to their name, and select “Remove access.” Their access is removed immediately.
